Making and keeping friends as an adult is challenging.

I haven’t seen a majority of my pledge sisters since my birthday in 2021. As adults, it’s challenging to make and keep friendships. We all have different priorities, schedules, and adventures that keep life full for each of us. Traveling to SoCal for a weekend of wedding festivities and being surrounded by sisters reminded me that, although difficult at times, nurturing our relationships is important.

In fact, the longest study on adult life found that our connections are essential to living happy and healthy lives. I mentioned this video in my March newsletter, and I’m still thinking about how our relationships support our well-being. Going from being sick and isolated to being surrounded by sisters made what I learned from Waldinger more personal. Putting the few clips I had of my trip and editing this travel vlog also made me appreciate all the big and little opportunities to tend to my friendships even more.

Check out the moments I was able to capture with my sisters in SoCal below!

While I don’t see my sisters often, I’m eternally grateful that I stepped out of my comfort zone and pledged a sorority in college. It wasn’t the easiest process or adventure, but some of my strongest friendships are with my sisters. They are some of the kindest, sweetest, most generous people I know. Every opportunity I get to catch up with them or connect feels fulfilling and meaningful. Each opportunity is a reminder to take a step back, be present, and remember what truly matters in life.

Spending a weekend with sisters also reminded me that no action is ever too small when it comes to nurturing our friendships and connections. Even a minute to say hi and share a smile or a laugh can fill us up and make each other feel seen, remembered, and loved. If you’re feeling lonely or isolated, I hope you take a moment to reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while or maybe grab a coffee together. We don’t always have to wait for big milestones to celebrate with each other.
