Talking Money With My Boyfriend

Talking about money shouldn’t be so awkward.

So, let’s talk money and have fun with it! That’s exactly what me and my boyfriend, David, did in our YouTube video: 13 Money Questions. Spend some time with your partner, family, or even friends and roommates to chat about money using the questions below.

Even after ten years together there’s still so much to learn about each other, but you don’t have to wait until you’re ten years into a relationship to talk about money. Answering some questions from a Refinery29 article, “The 20 Money Questions You Should Ask Your S.O.” was a good start, but we also created our own questions to learn more about each other’s money habits and preferences.

Play 13 Money Questions With Us:

*Questions from the Refinery29 article.

  1. What’s your first money memory?*

  2. Did your parents talk about money with you?*

  3. Did you get an allowance as a kid? What did you buy or do with it?*

  4. What drives your financial decisions?*

  5. What’s one money habit you admire about me?*

  6. What do you wish you knew more about [when it comes to money]?*

  7. What are you comfortable telling me about your money? Any debts that are important to know?*

  8. How do you like to spend your money? What’s one splurge you will never give up?

  9. What are you saving towards, short-term and long-term?

  10. Would you rather invest in property, stocks/bonds, or experiences?

  11. Would you rather rent or own?

  12. Who would handle the bills and expenses?

  13. Are you comfortable putting our money together?

Have fun! Laugh at yourself (and each other) a little, too. Once you get comfortable, maybe move on to some bigger questions—it won’t always be hard to discuss.

Keep taking those small steps forward with your personal growth, relationships, and money journey. In a blink, you’ll look back and see how far you’ve come.

And me, cheering you on!
